What Honda Key Systems Does Triton Locksmith Program?

Honda has used three generations of key/immobilizer technology. Each generation uses different transponder chips and programming protocols. Here's what your specific Honda likely uses:

• HISS with 46 chip (2001-2014): Honda Ignition Security System. The key has a Philips/NXP 46 (Hitag 2) transponder chip. Used on Civic (2001-2015), Accord (2003-2015), CR-V (2005-2014), Pilot (2003-2015), Odyssey (2005-2014). Programming requires reading the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) through OBD-II. We generate a new key token and register it with the immobilizer. Blade blank: HON66. $120-$160.
• HISS with 47 chip / Hitag 3 (2014-2020): Honda upgraded to the Hitag 3 (47 chip) with AES encryption. Used on Civic (2016+), Accord (2016+), CR-V (2015+), HR-V, Fit (2015+). More complex programming. Requires reading the IMMO data from the PCM and generating the key through our Autel IM608 Pro. Blade blank: HON66 or MIT11. $140-$200.
• Smart Entry System (2013+): Proximity fob with push-to-start. Used on Accord (2013+), CR-V (2017+ EX and above), Civic (2016+ EX and above), Pilot (2016+), Passport, HR-V (2023+). The fob communicates via 315 MHz for remote and 125 kHz for proximity. Programming requires OBD-II registration of the fob's unique ID. $200-$250.

How Does Triton Locksmith Program a Honda Key?

We connect to the Honda's OBD-II port and register the new key with the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). Honda's HISS system stores key IDs in the PCM, not in a separate immobilizer module like many other brands. Here's the process:

1. Connect Autel IM608 Pro to OBD-II port
2. Read the PCM's IMMO data (key registration records)
3. Generate a new key token matching the PCM's security protocol
4. Write the token to the new key's transponder chip
5. Register the key ID with the PCM
6. Test: key starts the engine, locks/unlocks doors, trunk release works

For 47-chip (Hitag 3) keys on 2015+ models, the programming is more involved because the AES encryption requires additional calculation steps. Our Autel IM608 Pro handles this natively. Some older programming tools can't do 47-chip Hondas. We can.

Can You Make a Honda Key Without the Original?

Yes. We decode the door lock using Lishi HON66 or MIT11 picks, cut the blade from the decode, and program the transponder from scratch through the OBD-II port. No existing key needed. This is our most common Honda call. Someone lost their only key. We make a new one from nothing in 30-45 minutes.

We can also pull the key code from Honda's database using the VIN number on some models. This gives us the blade cut without decoding the lock. Faster when available.

Do You Service Acura Too?

Yes. Acura is Honda's luxury division and uses the same key platform. MDX, RDX, TLX, ILX, NSX. Same transponder chips, same HISS system, same programming process. Acura keys cost the same as equivalent Honda keys. The only difference is the key shell design.
