High-Security Lock Installation
$200 - $500 | 45-90 minutes | Available 24/7
Triton Locksmith installs UL437-rated pick-proof, bump-proof, drill-resistant locks for commercial properties for $200-$500 per door. Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Abloy with restricted keyways. Authorized dealer for all three brands.
Why Do Businesses Need High-Security Locks?
Two reasons: physical resistance to attack and key control. Standard commercial cylinders (Schlage, Corbin Russwin, Sargent with standard keyways) can be picked by a trained person with commercially available tools. And their keys can be duplicated at any hardware store or self-service kiosk for $3.
High-security locks from Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Abloy eliminate both vulnerabilities. The cylinders use rotating pins, telescoping pins, or disc detainers that defeat conventional picking and bumping. And the key blanks are patented and restricted to authorized dealers only. No hardware store, no kiosk, no unauthorized locksmith can copy them.
All three brands carry UL437 certification, meaning they've been independently tested and certified to resist picking, drilling, and forced entry for 15+ minutes under controlled lab conditions. For businesses handling cash, inventory, sensitive data, pharmaceuticals, or anything of value, this level of security is the standard.
How Does Key Control Work for Commercial Properties?
You get an authorization card when we install the system. Without that card, nobody can get copies made. Not at Home Depot, not at a kiosk, not at another locksmith, not online. The key blanks are patented and physically unavailable outside the authorized dealer network. We're an authorized dealer for Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Abloy.
This solves the #1 problem businesses have with traditional locks: employees making unauthorized copies. According to the Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA), uncontrolled key duplication is involved in over 40% of commercial property theft attributed to insiders. When employees can walk into Home Depot and copy the master key, your entire security system is meaningless.
With restricted keys, every copy is tracked. You know exactly how many keys exist and who has them. When an employee leaves, you get the key back. If they made an unauthorized copy, it doesn't exist because they can't. That's real key control.
Which High-Security Brand Is Best for Commercial Use?
Depends on the priority. Here's how they compare:
- Medeco M3/X4 ($200-$350/door): Best all-around for commercial. Rotating pin mechanism defeats conventional picking. Medeco M3 patent runs through 2032. The X4 (newest model) adds a slider element for additional security. Works with master key systems. Widely available. Our most-installed commercial high-security brand.
- Mul-T-Lock MT5+ ($300-$400/door): Highest pick resistance. Telescoping pin-in-pin design with sidebar mechanism. Each pin has a pin inside it, doubling the manipulation complexity. Patent through 2030. Best for: maximum security applications, government, financial institutions.
- Abloy Protec2 ($350-$500/door): Disc detainer mechanism (no pins at all). Zero corrosion issues because there are no springs or pins to rust. 10 million cycle rating. Patent through 2034. Best for: oceanfront commercial properties in Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Pompano Beach where salt air destroys standard hardware.
All three can be retrofitted into existing Schlage L-series, Corbin Russwin ML2000, and Sargent 8200 mortise lock bodies. We swap the cylinder, not the entire lock. Same door hardware, dramatically better security.
How Much Do Commercial High-Security Locks Cost?
- Medeco M3 cylinder: $200-$300/door installed (2 keys included)
- Medeco X4 cylinder: $250-$350/door installed
- Mul-T-Lock MT5+ cylinder: $300-$400/door installed
- Abloy Protec2 cylinder: $350-$500/door installed
- Additional restricted keys: $15-$35 each (authorization card required)
- Retrofit into existing mortise lock: Same price, no additional hardware cost
Some insurance companies offer premium discounts for businesses with UL437-rated locks. The security investment may partially pay for itself through reduced insurance costs. Ask your commercial insurer.
Can High-Security Cylinders Fit Existing Commercial Lock Bodies?
Yes, in most cases. Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Abloy all manufacture interchangeable cylinders (IC cores and mortise cylinders) that drop into standard commercial lock bodies. We remove your existing standard cylinder and install the high-security one. Same lock body, same bolt, same trim. Just a much better cylinder.
This works with Schlage L-series, Corbin Russwin ML2000, Sargent 8200, and most other commercial mortise locks. For cylindrical (knob/lever) locks, we install a high-security cylinder in the same door prep. No hardware changes, no door modifications.
Can High-Security Locks Be Part of a Master Key System?
Yes. All three brands support master key hierarchies with restricted keyways. Grand master, sub-masters, and individual keys, all with restricted blanks that can't be copied without authorization. This gives you both key control AND tiered access. The best of both worlds.
What Does the Installation Process Look Like?
Step 1: Site assessment. Triton Locksmith inspects your existing hardware, door prep, and access requirements. We identify which cylinder type fits your current lock bodies and whether any doors need different treatment (fire-rated doors have specific hardware requirements under NFPA 80).
Step 2: Brand and keyway selection. Based on your security needs, budget, and environment, we recommend Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, or Abloy. For most South Florida commercial properties, we recommend Medeco M3 as the best balance of security and cost. For coastal buildings, Abloy Protec2 eliminates corrosion concerns entirely.
Step 3: Installation. We remove the existing cylinder from each lock body and install the high-security replacement. The lock body, strike plate, and trim stay in place. First door takes 45-90 minutes (including setup and testing). Each additional door averages 30-45 minutes. A 20-door building typically completes in one day.
Step 4: Key distribution. You receive your authorization card and initial key set. We document the key hierarchy if you're also setting up a master key system. All future key copies require that authorization card.

Can you put high-security cylinders in our existing mortise locks?
Usually yes. Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Abloy all make interchangeable cores that fit standard mortise lock bodies like Schlage L-series and Corbin Russwin ML2000.
How many keys come with installation?
Two keys per cylinder. Additional keys run $15-$25 each and require your authorization card. We can cut extra keys at the time of installation or any time after.
Are high-security locks required by any codes?
Not typically required by building code, but many insurance companies offer premium discounts for businesses with UL437-rated locks. Check with your insurer.
What does UL437 certification mean?
UL437 is an independent testing standard from UL (Underwriters Laboratories). Locks that pass must resist picking, drilling, and forced entry for 15+ minutes under controlled lab conditions. All three brands Triton Locksmith installs carry this certification.
Can employees still copy high-security keys without authorization?
No. High-security key blanks are patented and restricted to authorized dealers only. Hardware stores, self-service kiosks, and unauthorized locksmiths cannot obtain the blanks to make copies. Every key cut is logged and requires your authorization card.
Which brand is best for salt air environments near the coast?
Abloy Protec2. Its disc detainer mechanism contains no springs or pins to corrode in salt air. Best for oceanfront commercial properties in Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, and other coastal cities.
How long does installation take per door?
45-90 minutes for the first door including setup and testing. Each additional door averages 30-45 minutes. A 20-door commercial building typically completes in one business day.

Yes. All three brands support master key hierarchies with restricted keyways. Grand master, sub-masters, and individual keys, all with patented blanks that can't be copied without authorization. See our master key systems page.
Can Triton Locksmith rekey high-security locks later?
Yes. We carry specialized pin kits for Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Abloy. Rekeying high-security cylinders costs $55-$75 per lock. See our commercial lock rekeying page for details.
