Lock Installation
$75 - $200 | 30-60 minutes | Available 24/7
Triton Locksmith installs new locks on any residential door for $75-$200, including the hardware. We carry Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, and others in our vans. Most installs take 30-60 minutes. We can drill new holes on doors that don't have an existing lock prep.
What Types of Locks Does Triton Locksmith Install?
Every type that goes on a residential door. Deadbolts, knob locks, lever handles, keypad locks, smart locks, chain locks, and security bars. We install on wood doors, metal doors, fiberglass doors, and some glass doors with the right hardware.
If you bought a lock yourself and need it installed, we'll do that too. Bring your own Schlage, Kwikset, or any other brand and we'll install it. Or choose from the inventory in our van. Either way works. Just make sure the lock matches your door thickness (standard residential is 1-3/8 or 1-3/4 inches).
The most common installations we do in South Florida:
- Deadbolt on front door: Schlage B60N or Kwikset 980. ANSI Grade 1. $120-$160 installed.
- Matching knob + deadbolt set: Schlage or Kwikset combo pack. $150-$220 installed.
- Keypad deadbolt: Schlage BE365 or Kwikset SmartCode. $150-$350 installed.
- Smart lock with app control: Schlage Encode Plus, Yale Assure Lock 2, or August. $200-$400 installed.
- Bedroom/bathroom privacy lock: Interior knob with privacy function. $75-$100 installed.
- Gate or shed lock: Weather-resistant deadbolt or padlock hasp. $75-$150 installed.
Does Lock Installation Require Drilling a New Hole?
Only if your door doesn't already have a lock prep. Most exterior residential doors come pre-drilled with standard bore holes: 2-1/8 inches on the face of the door and 1 inch on the edge for the bolt. If your door has these (and nearly all do), the new lock drops right into the existing holes. No drilling needed.
You'll need drilling if:
- You're adding a deadbolt to a door that only had a knob lock (common upgrade)
- New construction or a door that's never had hardware
- Converting a single-bore door to accept a separate deadbolt above the knob
- Installing a lock on a non-standard door (barn doors, French doors, pocket doors)
We carry hole saws, drill jigs, and chisels in the van for all door materials. Drilling adds 15-20 minutes and $25-$50 to the job. Wood doors are quickest. Metal and fiberglass take a bit longer but we handle them daily.
How Much Does Lock Installation Cost?
$75-$200 per lock, including the hardware and labor. The price depends on the lock type and whether drilling is needed. We don't charge separately for the lock and the labor. One price covers everything.
If you're installing locks on a new home or doing a full upgrade on multiple doors, we offer the same volume approach as our rekeying service. First lock is the full price. Each additional lock on the same visit costs less because we're already there. Ask about multi-lock pricing when you call.
How Does Triton Locksmith Ensure the Install Is Done Right?
We test everything before we leave. Every single install gets a 5-point check:
- Key test: Key goes in and out smooth with zero sticking.
- Bolt test: Deadbolt throws fully into the strike pocket. Latch retracts and springs back cleanly.
- Strike plate: Sits flush against the frame. Installed with 3-inch screws that anchor into the wall stud, not the short factory screws that only grip the trim.
- Alignment: Door closes naturally and the latch catches without forcing.
- Function: Lock, unlock, lock again from both sides. Everything works consistently.
That 3-inch screw detail on the strike plate is the most overlooked element in door security. According to Consumer Reports' home security testing, a deadbolt with 3-inch strike plate screws resists forced entry significantly better than the factory 3/4-inch screws that come in every lock box. We use long screws on every single install. It costs $2 in hardware and 2 minutes of time. Worth every penny.
Can You Key the New Lock to Match My Existing Locks?
In most cases, yes. If your existing locks use Schlage SC1 or Kwikset KW1 keyways, we can repin the new lock's cylinder to match your current key. One key opens everything. No extra charge for keying alike during the same visit.
If you're mixing brands (Schlage deadbolt with a Kwikset knob, for example), they use different keyways and can't be keyed alike. We'd recommend picking one brand for all your exterior locks so you can use a single key. We can also set up a master key system if you need different people to access different doors.
What's the Best Lock to Install for a Front Door in South Florida?
Schlage B60N single-cylinder deadbolt. Hands down. It's ANSI Grade 1 (the highest security rating), bump-resistant, pick-resistant, and costs about $40-$60 for the hardware. Pair it with a matching Schlage lever handle for a clean look. Total installed cost: $150-$200 for the set.
If you want keyless convenience, the Schlage BE365 keypad deadbolt is our most popular upgrade. Same Grade 1 security, but you punch in a code instead of using a key. $150-$250 installed. Great for families with kids who lose keys.
For maximum security, Medeco or Mul-T-Lock deadbolts are pick-proof and use restricted keyways that prevent unauthorized copying. $250-$450 installed. Overkill for most homes, but perfect if you're in a high-value property or need key control.
